Today World Wildlife Fund announced this year's Climate Solvers. Of four selected companies in Sweden two are STING companies: SEEC, which solves the properties required of seasonal energy storage, and Swedish Aerogel, which has developed a cheaper method of production of the extremely lightweight insulation material aerogels. Together they can contribute to reducing carbon emissions by 59 million tonnes within ten years.
For the fourth consecutive year, the World Wildlife Fund appoints a number of climate innovations - technologies that radically can contribute to reduced energy consumption and reduced carbon emissions. Together, the four so-called Climate Solvers contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions by up to 152 million tonnes in the next ten years. This corresponds to approximately 2.5 times the Swedish total emissions according to Dagens Industri.
"When real estate is contributing a large share of carbon emissions, and also accounts for around 40 percent of global energy consumption, it is extremely important to find solutions to improve energy efficiency in buildings. Swedish aerogels and SEEC innovation has huge potential and contribute to the feasibility of reducing the annual carbon emissions by 59 million tonnes within ten years. This makes them definitely worth the award Climate Solver ", says Magnus Emfel, head of WWF's work on climate innovations.
Swedish Aerogels has developed and patented a new method for producing the highly efficient insulation material aerogels to a significantly lower cost.
"Our goal is to contribute to a technological shift in the insulation industry with established production methods and materials are replaced by high-performance insulation produced at low cost. That the World Wildlife Fund appoints us to Climate Solver and attention energy savings of our material gives us a global context. We are very happy and proud of this award, "says Anders Lundström, CEO of Swedish Aerogel.
Climate Innovation from SEEC is an opportunity to store energy in the bedrock, so that the summer heat can be stored and be used for building heating in winter, and winter cold can be stored and used for cooling in summer. Costs and energy consumption is reduced dramatically by the energy is stored rather than produced.
"We are incredibly proud that the World Wildlife Fund has selected SEEC as a Climate Solver. SEEC has a solution that the world needs and I am convinced that thanks to the World Wildlife Fund can make our technology available faster, "says Andreas Andersson, CEO of SEEC.
